Nordic-Fit

The Concept

Nordic-Fit offers Nordic Walkers and other enthusiasts who want to take part in innovative circuits and whole body workouts, that maximise the use of Nordic walking Poles in order to differentiate them from other outdoor exercise groups.

The session of, drills, exercises and keynote are based on the physical skill elements of an Expedition, Trek, or Charity Challenge, such as a  Kilimanjaro climb or the Marathon de Sables. Activities like load carrying, endurance drills, hill-work, strength exercises, and sled pulling build confidence and willpower.

Who Is It Aimed At?

The concept is aimed at  fitter individuals, who want a fresh challenge or specific training in preparation for a trek or expedition.

Do I Need To Be Able To Nordic Walk?

This concept is ideal for those who like a tough outdoor workout, but do not want to do the 'Learn to Nordic Walk' course. However, it will be of benefit to attend a 'familiarisation session' to cover the first two 'basic gears' in the 'Learn to Nordic Walk' course. Otherwise it will be difficult to keep pace with the rest of the group.

Members can join in without poles, as these will be provided. This means you can join in any 'Nordic-Fit' session and progressively learn Nordic Walking technique, and it's advantages at each session.

Alternatively, you may use the 'Exerstrider' poles, which have a faster learning curve although somewhat limited for power based exercises like running & bounding. However, it must be emphasised to reach the pinnacle and become a fully accomplished 'Nordic-Fit Trekker', you may find that you you need to develop the full Nordic Walking skills/gears.

Can I Join A Class With Trekking Poles?

You may join in with trekking poles that you have already purchased, but bear in mind trekking poles require a different technique to Nordic walking. Without Nordic Walking straps you will find the power based drills difficult, and without Nordic Walking technique, you will struggle with your overall performance.

Is There A Class For Beginners?

Each class is made up members of all skill levels. Trekkers wear coloured tabards according to their ability and skill level. The more competent trekkers usually help set out the circuits and partner up with beginners to demonstrate drills and to give support in teamwork. Using different coloured tabards is also an indication for an instructor of another class to know what your capabilities are.

What Do The Different Colours Indicate?

  • Green - is for the novice trekker and those who want to take it easier, or require support. Beginners could be Nordic Walking at gear 1-2 only.
  • Blue - is for the intermediate level, who tend be fitter clients that are fairly proficcient but may not know all the drills, and Nordic Walk gears 3-4.
  • Purple - is for the advanced trekker. The hardcore who are familiar with the name of every trek fit drill and is able to motivate others in the class.
